Modern Farmhouse

Timeless Style and a Layout that Fits the Way You Live

The foothills and Piedmont of North Carolina have always been farmhouse country. The vernacular is honest and familiar — steep gabled roofs, wide porches, simple forms, and materials that weather gracefully over generations. The modern farmhouse takes that language and applies it to the way people actually live today: open floor plans, primary suites, mudrooms that work hard, kitchens designed for real cooking, and the kind of light-filled interiors that make a home feel alive.

Done right, a modern farmhouse doesn't just look timeless — it is timeless. It will age gracefully, sit in the North Carolina landscape naturally, and never feel like it was chasing a trend. That's what we're designing and building for clients throughout Winston-Salem and the Piedmont Triad.

Our Modern Farmhouse Designs

The renderings represent the range of modern farmhouse designs we've developed for the Piedmont Triad — each one site-specific, each one available to be used as a starting point and customized for a fully original design:

Large Modern Farmhouse
Our larger modern farmhouse designs are built for the kind of lots where the style belongs naturally — a few acres in Davie County, a wooded tract near the Yadkin, or a pastoral hillside setting in the foothills. These homes have generous footprints, substantial porches, and the kind of material detail that earns its place in the landscape.

Luxury Modern Farmhouse
For clients who want the farmhouse aesthetic at a higher level of finish and scale, we've developed designs that bring the warmth and character of the style to a more expansive program — larger primary suites, more elaborate kitchens, covered outdoor living spaces, and the kind of custom millwork detail throughout that elevates the style.

Minimalist Modern Farmhouse
Not every farmhouse needs to be large. Some of our most compelling designs are restrained and minimal — clean white board-and-batten or lap siding, a simple gabled form, dark trim, a standing seam metal roof, and nothing extra. These homes are quietly confident and suit a wide range of lot types, from rural tracts to an established neighborhood infill.

Modern Farmhouse for Infill and Smaller Lots
Building a modern farmhouse in the city limits — on an infill lot in an established Winston-Salem neighborhood — requires a different approach than a rural site. Scale, setbacks, and neighborhood context all factor into the design. We've developed modern farmhouse designs specifically for smaller and corner lots that feel appropriately scaled for their setting while still delivering the full character of the style.

Where We Build Modern Farmhouses

We design and build modern farmhouses for clients throughout Forsyth County, Davie County, Yadkin County, Stokes County, and parts of Davidson County — including the communities of Winston-Salem, Lewisville, Pfafftown, Clemmons, Advance, Mocksville, and the surrounding rural areas.
