Barn House Projects
A Custom Home Designed Around the Way You Live and Work on Your Property
A barn house isn't just a style — it's a philosophy. It's the idea that a home should connect you to your land, serve the practical demands of your life, and still be a beautiful, comfortable place to come home to at the end of the day. A place to live, work, and relax — all under one roof.
At ADAMS DesignBuild, we design and build custom barn houses for landowners throughout the Winston-Salem area and the greater Piedmont Triad. Whether you're looking for a modern farmstead on a few acres, a Nordic-inspired retreat set into a wooded hillside, or a working barn with finished living quarters above, we design it from scratch around you — your land, your lifestyle, and your vision.
What Is a Barn House?
Barn houses blend the honest, utilitarian character of traditional agricultural architecture with the comfort and craftsmanship of a well-built custom home. They're characterized by bold roof lines — board-and-batten or rustic wood siding, standing seam metal roofing, and open, light-filled interiors that feel spacious without feeling formal.
In recent years, barn houses and barndominiums have become one of the most searched and sought-after custom home styles — and for good reason. They work on rural tracts, wooded lots, and pastoral acreage where a traditional suburban home would feel out of place. And when they're designed and built with real craftsmanship, they age beautifully.
Our Barn House Styles
Our in-house architectural design team has developed a portfolio of barn house styles, each of which can be fully customized to your lot and your budget:
Rustic Modern Barn House
Warm wood siding, standing seam metal roofing, and a strong, simple silhouette set against the North Carolina landscape. The exterior is rugged and grounded; the interior is open, light, and finished to a high standard. This style suits larger tracts in Forsyth, Davie, and Yadkin counties particularly well.
White Board-and-Batten Barn House
Crisp white or light-toned board-and-batten siding with metal roofing and dark trim — the modern farmhouse sensibility translated into a true barn house form. Clean, bold, and timeless.
Nordic Barn House
Inspired by Scandinavian vernacular architecture, our Nordic barn house designs are characterized by dark stained wood or board-and-batten exteriors, minimal ornamentation, steep rooflines, and a quiet elegance that fits naturally into wooded or pastoral settings. Inside, the emphasis is on natural light, natural materials, and thoughtful simplicity.
Small Barn & Accessory Structures
Not every barn house project is a primary residence. We also design and build smaller barn structures — guest quarters, studios, workshop spaces, pool houses, and farm outbuildings — that complement a larger property or serve as a standalone accessory dwelling.
Serving Winston-Salem and the Piedmont Triad
We design and build barn houses for clients throughout Forsyth County, Davie County, Yadkin County, Stokes County, and parts of Davidson County — including the communities of Winston-Salem, Lewisville, Pfafftown, Clemmons, Advance, Mocksville, and the surrounding rural areas.
